This is what I have done for my system
System Information :
- Windows XP Professional w/ SP2
- IIS 5.1
- PHP 4.3.9
Installation Steps for IIS 5.1 + PHP 4.3.9 (as ISAPI) :
1. Extract the PHP distribution (ZIP) to any directory that you would like (mine: C:\PHP\php-4.3.9).
To be safe do not create a directory which contain "space".
I will refer to this directory as INSTALLDIR on the rest of the text below.
2. Find the "php.ini-recommended" file under the directory where you unzipped the
distribution, and copy it into a file named "php.ini"
3. Modify the "php.ini" file and make sure the following setting
- doc_root =
( leave it blank )
- cgi.force_redirect = 0
- fastcgi.impersonate = 1
4. Copy the "php4ts.dll" (found in INSTALLDIR) to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
Although the manual recommend updating the PATH environment variable,
I did not manage to make it work without copying the file to the SYSTEM32 directory
5. Go to "Internet Services Manager" ( Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> ISM
)
6. Right click on "Default Website", and choose "Properties"
7. Don't put anything new under "ISAPI Filters" tab
8. On "Home Directory" tab, click the "Configuration" button, this will bring
you the "Application Configuration" dialog
9. On the "Mappings" tab, click the "Add" button, which will bring you the
"Add/Edit Application Extension Mapping" dialog
10. Enter ".php" in the Extension field (don't forget the dot),
and use the "Browse" button to navigate and select the php4isapi.dll
(which should be located under INSTALLDIR\sapi\php4isapi.dll, example on my case:
C:\PHP\php-4.3.9\sapi\php4isapi.dll)
11. Press OK to close the "Add/Edit Application Extension Mapping" dialog
12. Press OK to close the "Application Configuration" dialog
13. Press OK to close the properties page of the Default Website
14. Make sure the "Default Website" is selected on the tree of the IIS Manager, and press
the "Stop" and "Start" button on the toolbar to restart the HTTP services
15. As the manual recommends, you need to make sure that on NTFS partition, the user
IUSR_YOUR-MACHINE-NAME should have read and execute rights on any directory where you put your PHP
script
16. You are done
Now for some test you can create a simple PHP file containing only <?php phpinfo(); ?> and try
to access it with your browser.
Suppose you have default installation of IIS that means you have the webroot at C:\inetpub\wwwroot,
then put this file here (let's name it: phpinfo.php). And then you just need to open your
browser and point to http://localhost/phpinfo.php
Hope it helps
Sincerely,
Ketut Mahaindra (Ito)
