When using heredoc strings, defines will not work.

define("VAR", "12345");
$string = <<< end_of_string
This is my define: VAR
Perhaps like this: {VAR}
end_of_string;
?>
Both VAR and {VAR} do not work inside a heredoc string, so you should use a 'normal'
string:
<?
$string = "This is my define: " . VAR;
?>
