Using a filesystem logger during the trial-and-error installation procedure is VERY recommended.
Simply log every file access during the apache service startup, and et voila - you know the places
where to put which .dll for apache/php to find them. My favourite is Sysinternals Filemon for
Windows: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/filemon.shtml
which is freeware, but there may be other and probably more comfortable choices too.
