A couple of notes for the installation...
If you are already here you probably know that to test the installation you need the command
"<?php phpinfo(); ?>" typed into an empty file that is saved with the extension .php
Another note... there is a great apache intro on the macosx.org site.

If you want to edit the configuration file for the default webserver instead of the configuration
file for the user, then log in as root (or su root) and edit the following file
/private/etc/httpd/httpd.conf
When you edit the above file, you can then go to http://YOURIPADDRESS/test.php instead of http://YOURIPADDRESS/~your_username/test.php3
