I don't see how this removal was appropriate. PHP5's requirement to use the "unix://" prefix when connecting to a unix socket is a valid item that should be mentioned on the fsockopen document page. Yes, it's mentioned on the transports page, but there's no link to the transports page (or any mention of it) on the fsockopen page. I spent an evening trying to figure out what was wrong with the program that worked ok in PHP4 but that did not work in PHP5, and just this one comment would have saved me all that time. So why to remove it? I'm not asking questions, reporting a bug, or suggesting new features, only providing a tip to other users who might run across the same issue. The only problem was with the documentation for fsockopen and this comment would have fixed it. Read the following paragraphs carefully, because they contain pointers to resources better suited for requesting support or reporting bugs, none of which are to be included in manual notes because there are mechanisms and groups in place to deal with those issues. The user contributed notes are not an appropriate place to ask questions, report bugs or suggest new features; please use the resources listed on <http://php.net/support> for those purposes. This was clearly stated in the page you used to submit your note, please carefully re-read those instructions before submitting future contributions. Bug submissions and feature requests should be entered at <http://bugs.php.net/>. For documentation errors use the bug system, and classify the bug as "Documentation problem". Support and ways to find answers to your questions can be found at <http://php.net/support>. Your note has been removed from the online manual. ----- Copy of your note below ----- In PHP5 the "unix://" prefix is *required* when connecting to UNIX sockets. PHP 4.3.9 still allowed this issue to slide, but not so with PHP5. Since this page did not mention anything about the issue (until now :-), and I had not read the page about transports (http://docs.php.net/en/transports.html), I first assumed I had stumbled across a bug (http://bugs.php.net/30594), but a development team member quickly set me straight ;-).
