A word of advice: DO NOT USE THIS API We learned the hard way that the mssql_* functions use an outdated DLL/protocol which MSFT barely supports in the current version and won't support at all in the next. These APIs are slow and outdated and often just broken. The solution is to use ODBC when you connect to SQL Server. ODBC is usually the fastest way to talk to SQL Server.
