Avoid 1.75 days anguish building PHP 4.3.6 on AIX 5.2.0.0 with Oracle 9.2.0.4, the preponderantly
relevant part being AIX 5.2:
If you get all the way through the object file builds and then the linker craps out with
"symbol not defined" errors for all of the oracle call symbols (etx/oracle or ext/oci8),
try to do an
$ ar -t ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib/libcltnsh.a
If this fails silently, do a:
$ export OBJECT_MODE=64
and try the "ar" again. If the "ar" displays a bunch of symbols this time, go
back to your php top level directory and do a make distclean, configure [args] and a make. It
should build fine this time.
Note: if your apache was built with the env variable OBJECT_MODE unset or set to a value of 32,
you will have to rebuild and reinstall apache with the OBJECT_MODE set to 64 before it will work.
If you're getting "bad magic number" errors from apache when it tries to load
libphp4.so, this is the problem.
