I was able to get PHP running on iPlanet 4.1SP7 with little difficulty. MAKE SURE and add
'/usr/local/lib' to your 'LD_LIBRARY_PATH' env variable in
/path/to/server4/https-www.mydomain.com/start
If you neglect to do this, the server will fail to start. You will get an error stating
'somefilec++.so.1.. no such file or directory...'
cheers!
