To keep certain use flags for PHP enabled, use the /etc/portage/package.use file. Directions for
this file are available at the Gentoo doc site, or by reading the manual page for portage. Short
summary :
1. Create /etc/portage/package.use (as root)
2. Format is category/package [useflags]
If you always want PHP to be emerged with ipv6 ldap flash (ming) snmp yaz and mssql support, you
can add :
dev-php/mod_php ipv6 ldap flash snmp yaz mssql
Do not want to build PHP with mssql support?
dev-php/mod_php -mssql
If you use this file, then your preferences are remembered in subsequent updates to php.
Also note that emerge php will emerge the *client version only*. If you want both client and Apache
support, you will need to emerge both mod_php and php :
emerge mod_php php
It is also not necessary to run the ebuild config script, this is done by portage.
