Reason: added to the manual
----
I was having a lot of trouble getting PHP 5 with PWS 4.0 on Windows 98 to find my php.ini file, but
then I realized that the manual had omitted a small but very important piece of information (which
may be obvious to Windows gurus).
The manual states that you should set the PHPRC environmental variable in your autoexec.bat file
with the syntax:
set PHPRC C:\php
(replace C:\php with the directory where php.ini is located). This should actually be:
set PHPRC=C:\php
That "=" sign is very important! Your php.ini file will not be found if you do not
include it!
Also note that you must not use any spaces when defining the path to your php.ini file (this seems
to be the only instance when that matters). You can simply substitute the DOS name for any folder
names that have spaces. For instance,
set PHPRC="C:\Program Files\PHP"
does not work, but
set PHPRC=C:\PROGRA~1\PHP
does.
