Here's how I got my php script using the mail() function to work using ArGoSoft Mail Server
Freeware and my Hotmail internet email account:
Computer setup: Win 2000, Apache 2.0.52, PHP 5.0 build 2195, DSL internet access through a router.
I was able to use the default settings in php.ini file for the following section:
[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
SMTP = localhost
smtp_port = 25
Reminder: If you edit your php.ini file you will need to restart Apache (your Web Server).
I determined my DNS Server address by opening a DOS command window and typing
"ipconfig/all". I used the DNS Server address that was listed in the "local area
connection section" (xxx.xxx.x.x).
Launch the ArGoSoft Mail Server but do not start the service (if the service is already started,
then stop the service). I entered the DNS Server address(obtained earlier with
"ipconfig") in the ArGoSoft Mail Server under the Tools:Options:DNS Server field; and also
selected the "Allow Relay" box. Start the ArGoSoft Mail Server Service.
If your PHP script using the mail() function is correctly written then your message should be
delivered to the specified email address in your PHP script.
