The 'u' (utf-8 support) modifier is in fact very broken until PHP 4.3.3, both for Windows
and Unix. On PHP 4.3.2 and earlier, using any non-ASCII character (including the Latin 1 range) for
anything other than an exact substring match will fail or report incorrect matches.
