The output of the query is cached in the MySQL server. Every time you call mysql_fetch_assoc() one row is transmitted from MySQL server to your PHP script. That means the connection is kept open while $resource exists. Also, if MySQL dies before you fetch all rows your script will fail. ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-query.php Edit -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=edit+52586 Delete: added to the manual -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+52586&report=yes&reason=added+to+the+manual Delete: bad code -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+52586&report=yes&reason=bad+code Delete: spam -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+52586&report=yes&reason=spam Delete: useless -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+52586&report=yes&reason=useless Delete: other reasons -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+52586&report=yes Reject -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=reject+52586&report=yes Search -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
