note 52882 added to function.file-exists

I have a problem guys, I'm working on Win2k n using PHP5, the file_exists() seems to not work on a file that im not the owner. The NFS attribute of "Other" Read n Execute are enabled for this directory n file. In my php.ini file, safe_mode n safe_mode_gid are at OFF. Im certain that my filepath is ok. Do you guys have any ideas, do i have to change something in my php.ini file.
