If you need to parse a query string into an associative array... look at this function:
http://www.codeflower.com/index.php?a=showCode&id=34
Example:
print_r(parse_query_string('http://www.myserver.com/'.
'my_page.php?par1=val1&par2=val2#my_frag'));
Returns:
Array
(
[par1] => val1
[par2] => val2
[#] => my_frag
)
