the following:

$_SESSION = array_merge($_SESSION, $myvars) ;
?>
unregisters any variable in $_SESSION array, while the following :
<?php
foreach($myvars as $key => $value)
$_SESSION[$key] = $value ;
?>
does not.
I don't see the point.
What should be avoided using this weird $_SESSION array ?
