While andrew is right about using a parser when a parser is called for, I have to point out the fact, that the "regex killer" example he is giving is consistent with the general GIGO *(garbage in -> agrabe out) principle:. That said, the below mentioned regex will do exactly what it's supposed to do on it. Choke. That type of code is not recommended by W3C. Although an xhtml document will validate, it will yield warnings. It is much safer to use "&lt;" in such a case. That would be <img class="match1" alt="&lt;">. The lesson here is "rfm". And for advanced users "RTFM". ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/reference.pcre.pattern.syntax.php Edit -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=edit+57087 Delete: added to the manual -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+57087&report=yes&reason=added+to+the+manual Delete: bad code -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+57087&report=yes&reason=bad+code Delete: spam -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+57087&report=yes&reason=spam Delete: useless -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+57087&report=yes&reason=useless Delete: non-english -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+57087&report=yes&reason=non-english Delete: already in docs -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+57087&report=yes&reason=already+in+docs Delete: other reasons -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+57087&report=yes Reject -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=reject+57087&report=yes Search -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
