You can also try this to get the column names into an array.
// Use this to get the field names from a query.
$query_string = "SELECT * FROM table";
$result_str1 = mysql_query($query_string);
$str1 = mysql_fetch_assoc($result_str1);
$str1 = array_keys($str1);
