IF USING THE ISAPI MODULE ON WINDOWS, DO NOT FORGET TO ADD THE PATH TO YOUR PHP DIRECTORY TO YOUR
PATH ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE.
I didn't add c:\php\ to my path env var and the PHP install would work fine when I used the
php-cgi.exe, but failed when I used the php5isapi.dll file.
Whenever I added php extensions with the extension_dir="c:\php\ext" (Correct for my
install):
I would get and error like:
Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:\php\ext\php_mssql' - The
specified module could not be found.
or
Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:\php\ext\php_mysql'
Then php and the web server would become unresponsive. I'd have to reboot the system because
WWW services would not stop.
When I added the environment variables (right click My Computer-> Properties, Advanced,
Environment Variables, Edit the path variable and add ;c:\php\;c:\php\ext to the path), it started
working correctly and stopped becoming unresponsive.
I'm guessing the dlls refer to certain modules and the ISAPI code is unable to find the dlls
but the CGI version finds them ok. Adding c:\php to the path, allows the system to find them.
Finally, remember the IUSR_ and IWAM_ accounts that are used by IIS must have at least read-execute
access to the PHP install dir.
