In reply to Docey:
The breakthrough of hyperthreading (intel p4's) is that the processor can execute 2 threads at
once...and they do run parallel through the processor.
You are correct, Macs don't support this, because Macs (until recently) have been run on
non-intel processors that don't use this technology.
Windows does support this, and acts as if there are 2 physical processors, even through their are
just 2 logical processors. As a side note, Macs also support multiple physical processors.
Operating systems are not written in C++, and they never will be. C/C++/C# also must be translated
before it can be executed by the processor(s). Processors use something called binary code/machine
language/assembly code (all vary slightly in their definition but they are closely related) when
executing data. Operating systems are written in assembly language, which is then converted (kind
of) to binary executables that the processor understands. C++ is converted into binary code upon
compiling it. Then it can be executed where the processor can understand it.
Bringing this back to topic, without looking at the PHP backend, I do not know whether PHP supports
multi-threading, though I would imagine it does (totally unsure though). Either way, a hyperthreaded
CPU would NOT make any considerable improvement on the time a script is executed in regards to using
declare, unless of course an assanine amount of code was executed in the declare statement.
