note 57534 added to install.problems

As a newbie i find installing php an almost impossible task. For such an important and useful application one would think that there would be a fast and easy way to configure php and apache etc. I have installed apache and am able to view default page. However i changed the documentRoot from htdocs to test and created a test folder. I then created an index.html in the test folder. When i enter local host i am still seeing default page? Also in the php directory i cannot access an install wizard when clicking on application file?
