I new to php, installed php5 and mysql 4 my system running iss 5.1
trying to understand how it work but i could not connect to server using the code listed below

$link = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', '');
if (!$link) {
die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error());
}
echo 'Connected successfully';
mysql_close($link);
?>
i always receive error
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\connect.php on line 2
anyone there please help me to figure out what is the problem
