As a corollary to sync's note about USE flags, if you found that you emerged PHP without the
"mysql" flag, for example, and you need it, just update your use flags and re-emerge PHP,
but tell emerge that you have new use flags.
Here's an example set of bash commands where make.conf is edited to add the new USE flags, and
then PHP is re-emerged:
# sudoedit /etc/make.conf
# sudo emerge --ask --verbose --newuse dev-php/php
emerge will tell you which packages will be merged, and the USE flags (if any) that will be used
for each package. The "R" next to "dev-php/php" means that PHP will be re-merged
and any USE flags shown with an asterisk indicate USE flags that have changed since PHP was last
merged.
