Hi all!
I know, I'm considered an ugly moron by some of you, which does not
really keep me from stating my opinions. I think a simple procmail
filter should do for those ones of you. :)
Since Stefan and Daniel released XML_RPC 1.4 today, which is free of the
evil eval(), I don't see a problem in reverting the recent changes to
the installer which were done for exactly this problem. This will allow
us to put a much more stable version of the installer into PHP 5.1 RC1.
Beside that the problem of having ext/xmlrpc by default (which is not
acceptable by the PHP guys) will be solved, too.
What needs to be done by now is heavy testing of XML_RPC in cooperation
with the PEAR installer, but this can be managed within 2-3 (in my
estimation), if we all try to work together (and no more against each
other).
I would be much more satisfied with this solution than with any other
and I assume that the PHP folks see it in a similar way, since disabling
PEAR by default in 5.1 or making it use ext/xmlrpc by default will be a
BC break and annoy people.
Cheers!
Toby
