It seems like this topic has come up before, but I have a specific
question as to the motivation of some of the specific PEAR naming
conventions.
Why is it that public global variables must be prefixed by a
'_[Package_Path]_[ClassName]_' (which is normally the convention for
indicating private access), when public global constants are prefixed by
'[PACKAGE_PATH]_[CLASSNAME]_'? It seems silly to prefix only one with an
underscore, especially when it is mean to be public.
If I have a global variable that is not meant to be used by subclasses,
do I then use '__[Package_Path]_[ClassName]_' (with two underscores)?
Can anyone speak to the motivation here? I'm confused.
