Hi folks, I just implemented "file transactions" in the installer (not released yet, CVS only). File transactions basically let you abort the install nicely (for example, if your disk runs full in the middle of the install, or if a file could not be written for other reasons). Since this is a pretty drastical change, I really need some help testing that it works before releasing, on Unixes, Windows and Darwin. Here's what I'd like you to do when testing it: pear upgrade http://pear.php.net/~ssb/PEAR-1.0b2.tgz (if you installed the PEAR-1.0RC1.tgz that was part of 4.3.0pre1, use "install -f" instead of "upgrade") First try installing/uninstalling a few packages to see that the normal case works. Next, try write-protecting your php_dir, and verify that the install aborts nicely and leaves no files behind. Next, install a package (for example Log) and write-protect a sub-directory from that package ($php_dir/Log), then verify that "uninstall" aborts cleanly. Thanks to all who pitch in! - Stig -- Stig Sæther Bakken, Fast Search & Transfer ASA, Trondheim, Norway http://pear.php.net/wishlist.php/ssb
