>> [Monday] 02/12/2002 :: 20:35 -- NEWMSG Hello again. I'd like to clarify a few things regarding Raven, which seem to have stirred quite a bit of comments. Oh, and I'd like to thank the people who have responded to my original message. First off (correct me if I'm wrong), some people seems to have misunderstood me; calling Raven a `CMS' is actually a misnomer, but `CMS' is the closest term I could think of. Let me explain: Raven is not a stand-alone application--it's as to programmers as engines are to car manufacturers; you need to attach a steering wheel, a chassis, wheels, etc. for it to be actually useful. If anyone would like me to, and if it's allowed, I'd gladly post a zip file containing what's been finished with Raven so far, and the script I've written that takes advantage of Raven. Secondly, the licensing issue: my using GPL isn't final. Even RMS has implied (at least I think he did) that the PHP license would be better suited for PHP applications. And since I haven't released anything yet, changing Raven's licensing scheme wouldn't pose any hassle for me at all. Sadly, though, Raven does not use any existing PEAR classes. My haste to come up with a CMSystem of my own discouraged me from diving through my local copy of PEAR classes, since I already knew what I want, and had an idea of how to go about it. And to be honest, submitting Raven to the PEARepository came as an afterthought. In response to Mr. Alan Knowles' post, Raven would fall under the third category. That is, if I understood what he meant by it. Raven just provides the functionality for a CMS; it has a function to which you'd pass a file name, which Raven would then parse for the markup I've come up with. But I guess this would be better left off to actual inspection of my code, if anybody is willing and has time to look at it. Later guys. Stay frosty. ------- ``...
