Hi,
In the PEAR package we sometimes use PHP functions that were introduced
in a later version of PHP than we require through dependencies, and
provide an implementation written in PHP if it's missing.
What about defining a top-level directory where one can put such
compatibility hacks? I suggest using one file per function, called
"phpcompat/function_name.php".
