If there is no way you can maintain BC release it as 2.0.0.
Stig had a good mail on the list earlier describing how
pear packages should be versioned. Change major number
when doing a groundbraking non backward compatible releases.
Middle number when adding new functionality. Change the
last number when doing bugfixreleases.
