Hi,
I ran the quite simple benchmark by John Lim
(http://phplens.com/lens/adodb/) and MDB came out faster there. But this
was using only MDB::query and MDB::fetchInto() which does not have any
of the overhead of the optional MDB datatype support. The benchmark
results can be seen here:

This can be mainly attributed to some of the issues in DB that were
talked about in this post by Tomas Cox:
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=pear-dev&m=100793507904834&w=2
Obviously if you use any of the methods (like all fetch* methods, that
are the basis for the get* and query* methods) that do include handling
of optional datatypes or even use the optional datatype support the
performance will degrade.
I would be interested in your specific benchmark or any observations you
might have.
Regards,
Lukas Smith
