Problem is, there are so many different methods for
authentication/authorisation out there, that you´ll never be able to
put every possible one into one single package. That´s an even
stronger argument for having at least a common API (that will itself
at least provide the most common needs out-of-the-box), so
applications can easily be integrated with each other.
