Hello everybody,
For about three years we have been developing an application server using
php, Smarty and PostgreSQL. Now we want to add an integrated web mail. We
had talks with the Squirrelmail team one year ago and again just recently
about templating Squirrelmail so that it can be integrated, but we did not
reach an agreement on speed and quality of the abstraction.
At the end we decided to write the mail support ourselves (which is not a
problem - we just wanted to contribute to the community 3 to 9 development
months, as we do with www.pgaccess.org for example. But then I suddenly
found out that PEAR has an mail module. So we decided to check if we can
partner with you.
Our goal is - powerful and completely based on templates web mail. Basically
our application server has four layers - db, core, business logic and
templates - so the mailing module will follow it.
At the end - we are about to release the code of our application server, and
the mail module - the last will be able to work separately also, in addition
to its ability to integrate with other services (address databases, mailing
list services, customer e-mail support services and so on) - that are part
of our application server.
To make the long story short - do you think PEAR is a suitable place for
such a cooperation. We are dedicated to high quality code and we accept the
PEAR requirements. We are sometimes too serious about what we do. Do you
think that we should partner the mail module or do you think we should start
new module - web mail. Or new module - application server. Or is PEAR rather
for more basic level components?
Thank you for your attention and best regards,
Iavor
