Either PEAR (1.0.1) fails in calculating release numbers or the apd
maintainers chose an invalid release number:
$ pear list
[...]
| apd | 0.4p1 | stable |
[...]
$ pear list-upgrades
AVAILABLE UPGRADES (STABLE):

$ pear upgrade apd
