Package proposal: Mime_type

The current implementation of HTTP_WebDAV_Server has some code in it that is used to identify the MimeType of a file as this is needed as a standard WebDAV life property The code uses ext/mime_magic if available. On Unix-like Systems it tries to execute the file binary if the mime_magic extension is not available, and if anything else fails it tries to guess the mime type for some common file types from their filename extension (for Windows one could also think of looking this up in the registry?) This stuff is actually not only related to WebDAV so i think it deserves a package of its own that would provide a portable solution for mimetype detection using PHP even on systems where the mime_magic extension is not available ... -- Hartmut Holzgraefe <hartmut@php.net>
