Some pointers:
php4/pear/PEAR/Common.php methods:
infoFromDescriptionFile(): reads a package.xml file and returns its
information as an array.
xmlFromInfo(): takes an array (with the format of the infoFrom*() methods)
and builds the package.xml file.
