Greg, with last version of Archive_Tar package it is possible to extract a file "in memory" (in a string variable) and work on it , without having to extract all the archive and use temporary file ($value=$archive->extractInString("package.xml");). I know Stig was waiting for this feature. It might be for this kind of function. However the archive must be first downloaded locally before the extract can be done. And I don't know enought about the installer to see if it can be done ... Hope this helps, Vincent "Greg Beaver" <greg@chiaraquartet.net> wrote in message news:20030625170451.4623.qmail@pb1.pair.com... > Hi, > > The problem with the current method of installation is that the package must > be extracted before dependencies can be determined.
