Point taken. What further development should be done before I propose the package? I wonder if it would be possible to have a package able to extract metadata from several kinds of sound files formats, like mp3 and others.Obviously this does not address your wider point, but a class to access MP3 information (i.e. ID3 tags) already exists within PEAR in the form of the MP3_ID [1] package. I agree that it'd be a great thing to have a package to extract header information from various classes, but this since this my first attempt to create a PEAR package, I'd rather leave the grander plans for some time in the future. One project that might be of interest to you is the getID3 project [2], which covers a great number of multimedia file formats (and so happens to be written in PHP). On a side note, what are the implications of attempting to implement a class that does a similar job to the UNIX file command for purposes of file type identification? Is this something that would be helpful to PEAR implementors?
Please remove the echo statement, work on the file access (fopen or exit 'FOO' is not an option).Yes, that is most certainly a good point. :)
Other than that, it looks alright do you plan to add functionnality (i've no idea what that could be ;) ?I plan to enable extraction of the running time of the track, and all other information visible using the 'ogginfo' command. The alteration of comments is also on the agenda, in the same manner as 'vorbiscomment'. Regards, David 1. http://pear.php.net/package-info.php?package=MP3_ID 2. http://getid3.sourceforge.net/
