As reported to the list by Andrew Opera 7 works perfect. So I
investigated a bit further into the problem. Both Opera 6 and Opera 7
use the DOM-method to switch the layout of the "progress-cells".
First step: Trying the other methods for changing colors of the cells
in Opera 6 -> didn't work -> DOM seems to be correct
Second step: Having a closer look at the dom-properties (especially
className) I saw that Opera 6 correctly switches the classname of a
progress-cell. But it doesn't seem to redisplay / redraw it
correctly. The color still stays as it was before.
Googled the problem and found that DOM-support in Opera 6 still was a
bit crappy. E.g. style.display didn't work correctly (as some people
might have noticed). But style.visibility did in Opera 6. So I
decided to hide the cell, change it's classname then and set it to
visible again. Still the same effect. Funny thing: className changed
correctly - but you can't see it. Oh boy ... Somebody has any other
idea to make Opera redraw the cell or even re-render the whole
document? But at the moment I guess it's simply not possible with
Opera :-(((
Just another idea (that is supposed to work): What if you might draw
cells one over another? I mean, one cell for "inactive" and another
right above for "active" - with dhtml it shouldn't be a problem. This
way you could change the visiblity of the "active" cells. Should also
work with Opera 6. What do you think?
And how about evaluating the user-agent on the server and only
displaying such a "workaround"-page when a visitor uses Opera 6.x?
Yet I haven't tried konqueror, galleon or any other "exotic" browser.
But maybe some of them have the same problems. The workaround-method
with having two cells and setting the visibility of the active-cell
might even be useful for some of those browsers as well.
What do you think about the way of my solution *g* If you're
interested maybe I might find the time to make a test-htmlfile.
