i want to experiment with the class LiveUser 0.7. I read the tutorial on the Homepage (http://projects.21st-hq.de). The example which the PEAR packages includes doesn't work :(. First Problem: The script tries to include an non-existing File: // Get LoginManager class definition require_once("LoginManager.php"); Also other classes in LiveUser includes LoginManager.php. Why isn't this script part of the package.Hi Jan, the problem is a different one: LoginManager.php has been renamed to LiveUser.php to fulfill the PEAR naming conventions. Unfortunately, we forgot to update the example for the package release.
Next problem is: The turorial says: "SQL scripts to create the database are included with LU package. They are currently only available for MySQL. They reside in PEAR_DATA_DIRECTORY/LiveUser/sql/" But on my installation the directory "sql" doesn't exist. That must be a bug in the package.xml ... the package release is quite old already, we´re currently working on a new release which will remedy all the issues you have mentioned and more.
Is there anything wrong with the class? Or, are these problems the reason, why this package is in alpha status? There´s nothing wrong with the class itself, just with the packaging. The package is still in alpha status because the API is not yet stable, meaning: The way LiveUser is being used can still change, so from one release to the next, there *may* be issues with backwards compatibility, resulting in breaking existing code. This is why you should use alpha status software only for getting to know and evaluate the usefulness of the package, but not for production purposes. Nevertheless, this is merely theoretical. There haven´t been too serious BC breaks through the alpha releases and the package that we´re about to release will most probably be the last alpha. To see what´s coming, best use the current CVS version. Regards, Markus
