But this is just a side-thought :-) I'm not familiar with Archive_Tar, but basically you can do whatever you like in your stream wrapper. On opendir() you could untar the archive in a temp folder (or memory, if that's possible with Archive_Tar) and then access the files from there, by mapping the path. On closedir you put all files back in the archive. This would surely be slower than using Archive_Tar, but it would be a nice abstraction, like ACDSee does it on Windows, this image viewer treats ZIP Archives like they were directories... Stephan
