This may be a problem with my system, but I don't have time to
investigate it in detail tonight.
Under my FreeBSD system, a fresh checkout of the a 'php5' or 'php4.3'
tree results in the 'pear' wrapper script being installed with all of
the permissions bits set, e.g.:
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 673 Sep 4 23:49 /usr/local/bin/pear
In addition, the @php_bin@ references in pear/scripts/pear.sh are
being replaced with 'PEAR_CONFIG_DEFAULT_PHP_BIN' (literally) during
the installation process. The @php_dir@ substitution is working
correctly, however.
I modified the resultant /usr/local/bin/pear script by hand to get it
to work, but I suspect something is broken in the PEAR installation
process.
