It's a good idea to write directly to the maintainer(eg. peter) and cc pear-dev (email in the top of the file) about this - he's not currently subscribed to pear-dev..

Hi!
I'm currently coding a small photo album and tried to create some thumbnails
with Image::Transform. The result looked worse. So I checked the _resize()
function of the GD driver and stopped at the function check in line 331 and
336. After some tests I found out that the code doesn't do what you want. So
I changed the two if-statements into
<snip>
if(function_exists('ImageCreateTrueColor')){
...
if(function_exists('ImageCopyResampled')){
...
</snip>
I think this will do the job.
But, after this change I realized that my performance decreased. This relies
on the ImageCopyResampled function which needs lot of processor speed.
Perhaps it's a good idea to add a switch for the resize functions to decide
which function to use (e. g. fastResizing = true|false).
