Auth::sessionValidThru() and expiration times

In Auth, checkAuth() looks at both expiration time and idle time to
determine if a session is still valid, but sessionValidThru() only checks
idle time. Why doesn't sessionValidThru() return
$session['auth']['timestamp'] + $this->expire if $this->expire is not 0
(and
the expire time is sooner then the idle time)?
