As Tobias (IIRC) already pointed out, the installer doesn't work pretty well
with PECL atm.
Here are my observations:
With master_server being set to pear.php.net, none of the pear commands
beside "pear search" work. The most descriptive error comes from "pear
download":
File http://pear.php.net:80/get/sqlite not valid
(received: HTTP/1.1 404 Not
Found)
all the others just return "Unable to open in read mode
'/home/jan/cweb/sqlite'". That makes sense as download only works remotely
while install may also work locally. But the error message could be better
because this one is confusing if I actually wanted to get a remote package.
Calling "pear -d master_server=pecl.php.net install sqlite" still refuses to
work but "pear -d master_server=pecl.php.net download sqlite" works and one
can then call "pear install SQLite-1.0.tgz".
I expected that all pear commands use the same method to determine and find
packages from names passed as an argument, but that seems not to be the
case. Why is that?
Jan.
