Hey all,
I'm looking to get some help and... stuff :)
Whilst coding my XML_Annotea code I've come across the benefits of using a *proper* RDF parser on the XML Annotations rather than trying to use an XML parser. I have come across some great code, that I'd like to propose for inclusion into PEAR, this is the RDF API for PHP - RAP[1].
There are some issues that need discussing though, firstly, part of the code[2] included in this, is licensed under the GPL, first and foremost, we need the authors permission to license it under the LGPL or other PEAR compatible license. The code has not been modified in quite some time, so I do not think we'll encounter much resistance on this front. On the other hand, it could probably do with some updating to take advantage of new PHP stuffs.
Secondly, the code in question has a whole BUNCH of stuff in it, which should be split into seperate packages. It is because of this I propose a new RDF top level category. Before anyone cries out that it should be under the XML category it should be pointed out that RDF is not always expressed as XML and that RAP handles other formats too.
Now, if you've got this far, there are other issues concerning the code itself... its good code, its well apidoced, etc. however it does not fully follow the PEAR CS...
The code in its entirety is 1.21MB... however, 949KB of this is ADODB. ADODB is used to provide DB Persistance... I think this could be changed to use PEAR::MDB instead, leaving just 290KB of code to change...
Now, what I would like to ask is this:
Is anyone willing to lend a hand to get this code converted to PEAR CS and into PEAR, and move it from ADODB to MDB? Also, I will be looking for a maintainer (I will ask the original authors but I do not expect them to be up for it) because I will most likely NOT be able to do this job.
I hope to hear some feedback on this... generally I seem to get overlooked *whine*
