DB has the performance/portability switch for that.
MDB doesn't.
In the end an abstraction layer is about trade offs. Some you are willing to
take, some you decide to not care about. The good thing is that adding this
feature if you want is quite trivial. However adding every conceivable
option by default slows down the code.
