No :).

Who said that? You should have read "even with this "problem" I'm pretty
sure that sqlite is faster than most of the DBs around". However I have
not ran any benchmark done to verify that.

Concurrent write to a file is not possible. 'a' is used to get the seek
pointer to the end of file and then quickly insert the datas at the end
of the file (see the manual for more infos). This operation can be quit
fast and hide a bit the lock side effects.
