Volunteers for php5-changes to Config? Maybe a working version is possible even without using the "advanced" php5-features, for the moment. Would require some testing ...I had some similar problems with any class that uses xml_* functions. The workaround for PHP5 beta3 was to use xml_parser_set_element_handler( array( $this, 'startElement' ), array( $this, 'endElement') ); instead of using xml_parser_set_object($this); xml_parser_set_element_handler( 'startElement', 'endElement'); But I haven't tried this with PHP5 Beta4...
