The new PEAR package Text_Wiki-0.12 (alpha) has been released at http://pear.php.net/. Release notes ------------- * getTokens() method fixed (thanks to Alan KNowles for the bug report) * rule 'newline' now handles implicit line breaks (single newlines) in paragraphs and blockquoted text (not in lists or tables) * added rule 'break' for explicit line breaks (uses space-underscore markup) in any element (including lists and tables) * rule 'tighten' used to remove all newlines, now converts instances of 3 or more newlines to 2 newlines * re-ordered rules in Wiki.php to deal with implicit line breaks (in particular newline, break, tighten) * modified some rules to deal more gracefully with implicit line breaks (list, deflist, heading, blockquote)
This release incorporates the single-most-asked-for improvement to Text_Wiki: the handling of single newlines as line breaks. This bears a bit of explanation. You can still do an "explicit" line break almost anywhere by putting space-underscore " _" at the end of a line. This works in paragraphs, lists, table cells, etc. This is the old "newline" rule behavior, but it now lives as the "break" rule. The new behavior, an "implicit" line break (the new "newline" rule), works within paragraphs and block-quotes only. In short, any single newline will render in XHTML as a break tag; two newlines still mark the end of a paragraph, and should not render as two break tags. The addition of implicit line breaks exposed some problems with other rules, notably the list, deflist, and heading rules; these have been modified to allow for proper recognition of paragraphs and implicit breaks. You can try out the new behaviors in the Yawiki sandbox.
