It just occured to me that there is a simple solution to enabling a certain level of commenting comments without the danger of flames.
The idea is that a comment by be commented with either "+1" or "-1" to express full approval or full disapproval of the comment. Nothing may be added beyond that. If you feel you need to add anything beyond that you should instead comment the original RFC.
Anyways maybe we should collect idea such as this and then see if we can modify the current RFC RFC once we have more experience with it.
